Wanted: A New Chair

I've decided that the next item that I am going to be searching for is a chair.

There is a corner in my room that is lonely, and I need a good "throw-all" place for my clothes!

Here are a few great chairs that I was able to find on Pinterest for inspiration!

Can you tell the one in the middle is my favorite??

I'm thinking I would cover it in a cream or light green color...

Chairs can be a nice touch to make a bedroom more "homey." Especially for us apartment gals without a bunch of living space!

"Don't feel like chillin on the bed? Sit in this fabulous chair!"

What do you think? Do you have an upholstered chair in your room? Did you go with a print or solid color fabric?

Let the great chair search begin!!

D Mag Recommends - I Win (Item #20)

While doing my daily D Magazine online reading, I came across this little post: 25 Great Products to Make Over Your Bathroom. Cute stuff, but seriously pricey. You would have to spend well over $10,000 to get the entire list of goodies in your bathroom.

$126 for a canister for your cotton balls? $138 for a trash can? $2,500 for a shelf??? Are you crazy? If your answer is yes, then go buy those. My answer: Challange Accepted.

What is this challenge? Of course, I will be finding some alternative options to the outrageous bathroom "necessities" on this list. I may find them while digging through junk, or at one of my favorite gift shops. Either way, all of my finds will be documented for you!

Today, I will start off with item #20 on the list:

Tray
Casa di Lino
$85.00

Tray
Canton, TX
$10.00
I've posted about this little beauty before - but don't think I've shown it to you all cleaned up yet...

Disclaimer: The items on top were Christmas gifts from my step-grandmother...Lady Primrose bath products! Those would probably belong on the ridiculous list, but you can totally find cute containers like that while junking, then fill 'em up with whatever you want!

So now you know...never, EVER, spend $85 for a tray that you can get for $10!

Stay tuned for some more items to complete your bathroom...for less than the D Mag recommended price!!

Hydrangeas need a pick me up? No problem!

If you couldn't tell, hydrangeas are currently my favorite flower. So pretty and classic...I just can't get enough!

But what happens after a few days when your beautiful hydrangeas start to wilt??

Tip of the Day: Dip the head of your hydrangeas (aka - the bunch of petals) upside down into a bowl of cool water. Let the excess water air dry...and your hydrangeas will be fresh again in no time!

I Heart the Big D

All of the traveling that I have done in the past week has reminded me how much I LOVE Dallas! Do you get that warm fuzzy feeling when you drive up to the Dallas skyline too? The view is particularly good coming from 45 or 35 back into town. Nothing can quite beat that for me (not even my beloved NYC)...

Also, I LOVE LOVE LOVE flying into Dallas at night! It is crazy how big the city is, and if you fly into Love Field, you get to see this lovely view:

It is the very fact that I love coming home so much that  makes me doubt I could every really live anywhere else (unless there was a REALLY good reason, of course)!

Do you like the Dallas skyline too? The Bar Belmont at the Belmont hotel has a breathtaking view! The adjoining restaurant, Smoke, is fabulous as well. If you are in the mood for some good food/drinks with a great view, or are showing a newbie around Dallas, this is a great spot to hit up! Also, I've heard a rumor that the brunch there is phenomenal...in fact, it just made D Mag's "Best of Big D" list!

Have a fab weekend my lovely readers - try not to melt out there!

Review: Color Adjusting Blush

Yayyyy! Finally back in town! I have been having blogger withdrawls for the past week!! All the deets on the trip, and some fun pics will be up soon, but for now, enjoy this little makeup experiment I did last week!

Several months ago, I read about a new blush by Stila that automatically adjusts to your skin tone. It claims to adjust to your skins pH, so that it looks good on anyone. Naturally, I was intrugued. No way that could work. Unfortunately, every time I was in Ulta, the stuff was sold out...until last week!

Stila Custom Color Blush
$20.00
This is scary pink in the container. I prefer my blush to be pretty subtle, so I was very wary of this when I tried it on in the store. It actually turned out to work very well! For the price, this is a great deal!

Just a couple tips:
  •  Try this one on in the store before you buy it. Ulta always has samples for you to use so that you don't have to waste $20.
  • The key to this is blend, blend, blend.
  • Apply a bit at a time, because it is very easy to overdo.
Overall, a good, reasonably priced summer blush! Go give it a try!!

More Junk!

This weekend we decided to road trip out to McKinney, Princeton and Farmersville. This may surprise you, but this was quite possibly one of the best junking trips ever. For me at least. We decided to take the Lexus out there. After all, if you take the small car, you are destined to find the big items!

Naturally, my brother had to drive the Denali out there for us halfway through the morning. Good thing we had that!

Alyssa got a fab dining table and bench (the turquoise items) in McKinney. I also got  some great stuff:

Shelf for the bathroom - $25 in McKinney. I'll post pics once I have it filled up!

Metal box - $5.00 in McKinney. Already rolled up hand towels in it for the bathroom!

Bar cart - $22 in McKinney. Inspiration from this one (below) from Pinterest. I'm gonna go to World Market at some point to get some fun stuff to put on it!

Jealous yet? Just a few more treasures...

Decanters - $6.99 each in Farmersville
Pink wine glasses - $3.75 each in McKinney
Purple wine glasses - $2.00 each in McKinney

Overall, I highly recommend you make the trip out to at least downtown McKinney. The town square is lined with tons of cute shops and restaurants!

I also re-arranged my bedroom this weekend. It's good to have a little fresh start every once in a while! Also is a fairly decent workout to take apart the bed and move the big items all alone!

Stay tuned for more pics once I get everything accessorized and organized!

It's Harry Potter Week!!!!

The time has finally come! I have been in denial about this for quite a while, and I still don't think it has hit me yet!

For those of you who don't know, I have been OBSESSED with good 'ole HP since I received the first book in 1999. I will be heading down to Orlando with 4 girls I went to high school with this Thursday to watch the movie at midnight (in IMAX of course), then going to Harry Potter World on Friday morning. It will be epic.

Here is a pic of the last time that we were all able to get together for a Harry Potter event! We were at the Border's midnight release of The Half Blood Prince in 2005. Love the face paint. We are going to have to do that again. Sadly, one of the girls is currently in Scotland and will not be joining. However, the rest of us will be flying in from Los Angeles, Nashville, Kansas City, Dallas and Houston.

On another note, Alyssa and I had a VERY successful junking trip this weekend. Stay tuned for some excellent junkie pics!

Shop Till Ya Drop!

Today is Friday, and I do not want to work. So I am going to talk about shopping.

Well, I can safely say that I am not allowed to go shopping for a long, long time! My sister and I hit up the pre-anniversary sale for Nordstrom's on Thurs night, and spent about 2 hours going through jeans, tops, dresses, bags, jewelry, and most importantly, SHOES! It was exhausting - but I highly recommend that everyone go and get a Nordstrom card now and start spending so they can do this next year!!

Firstly, let me say that the pre-sale started on Tuesday, and they were pretty picked over by Thursday. The leather jackets I wanted to look at were all gone, and the work out gear and pajamas were cleaned out! Hopefully they will re-stock a little before the official sale starts...but we shall see!

I can't post the entire sale on here - way too much effort...and I don't want to get in trouble! So, here is a small preview to indulge you until the sale comes around! Keep in mind that this is all for the fall- Enjoy!

Firstly, I must mention my favorite deal of the day:

Caslon Shirred V-Neck Tee
Point of View
$18.90 (reg $28.00)
These bad boys come in a bunch of different colors (I got three - red, teal and purple), and they are SUPER flattering! Definitely a great basic tee to have!

Halogen Merino Wool V-Neck Cardigan
Point of View
$52.90 (reg $79.00)
A great cardi for work (or play!). I got mine in a magenta-ish color.

Halogen Sequin Silk Tank
Point of View
$57.90 (reg $88.00)
Love it. Very comfy and flattering - good for going out on a "fat day"...or a "skinny day"

Zella Easy Breezy Hoodie
Woman's Active
$31.90
This super comfy hoodie is perfect for yoga, or just lounging around the house! Not too thick, love the length, and the color looks good on everyone!

Nike Legend Capris
Woman's Active
$39.90
Another great workout essential. Very comfy.

Tory Burch Leather Flat
Salon Shoes
$169.90 (reg $255.00)

A great classic black ballet flat. Very comfy, and you will wear them for years. I finally broke down and got my first pair :)

Hanky Panky
Lingerie
$12.90 (reg $22.00)

If you have not joined the Hanky Panky bandwagon yet, I suggest that you do so immediately. One size fits all - so comfortable. Go get them.

Overall, got some great basics out of this sale. You should be forewarned that this fall is all about the poncho. The PONCHO. I don't know who decided this, but they should be disowned right now. So there will be a ton of those out there. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Also, another disappointment this year was the change in the Nike Tempo shorts that we all know and love. They added about an inch to the length. Not flattering at all...

Several great pairs of dark wash jeans in there - I got a pair of Citizens for $118 (reg $198). Get in there quick if you need jeans - they are selling like hotcakes.
Also some great bags (mostly brown leather satchels) and jewelry. All of the boots this  year are knee length or the really short ones that hit like 1/4 up your calf. I tried some on, and was practically drowned in them. Too much shoe for us shorties.

Hope you enjoyed my little overview - now get out there and SHOP! Anniversary Sale starts on July 15th! We have another junking trip planned for this Saturday, so hopefully I will have another junkie update next week. Have a great weekend!!

Summer Beauty 101

Ahhh my Nordstrom box has just arrived to the office filled with some summer goodies!

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact
Pink Quartz $38
Awesome summer basic - a little pricey but totally worth it! I have been wanting one for years, and finally caved in a got one! Gives you a great shimmer on your cheeks. Can also work as a light blush or eyeshadow!

Bobbi Brown Metallic Eyeshadow
Black Cocoa $20
Great eyeshadow to put on your lids, or to use for a smokey eye effect! Go for a nude lipgloss and light blush (like the shimmer brick above!) with this one.

MAC Fix+
$19
Excellent makeup setting spray! Works to set your makeup right after application, or to give your face a little refresher after a long day! Smells good too!

And lastly, a couple of nifty gifties from my fav store. It's like they knew what I needed!

Along with my excessive obsession with all things Nordstrom, I will be going into the secret Anniversary Sale room for some pre-sale shopping this evening. Don't worry though, all of my impulse purchases will be well documented!

Happy Hump Day!

Fresh from Central Market - lovely!!

Tip of the Day: When you cut your fresh flowers, do it under running water. They will last a lot longer!!

Happy 4th of July!!!

Wow! What a great long weekend! Started off with a trip out to Canton for some quality junking (and yes, we did have corndogs at 9:45 am). Before we died of heat, we walked out with a few good items...

I got this nifty collector's shelf (above) for $15 - Planning on turning it into a jewelry display like this one (below) I found on Pinterest.

The rest of the trip was spent finding filler items for my shelf I found in Round Top this spring...

Still need a few items to make it look complete, but it's better than having an empty shelf on my wall!

And lastly...

Found this cute little gem (marked $10, but got it with a few of the bottles above for $15). After I clean it up, it will be a pretty place to put my perfume bottles!

And every July 4th is not complete without a trip to the lake!

Red, white & blue cakeballs  - duh! A little classier than the last batch I made ;)  Also made the Best Macaroni & Cheese EVER (Note that you should use a 16 oz package of pasta...also added some bacon to the recipe)...huge hit with my brother and his friends!

Until next time my friends!

Bachelorette Party Extravaganza!

I was recently given the privilege of co-hosting a bachelorette party for one of my besties, Mimi!

We had a nice relaxing weekend out at Lake Travis with a great group of girls! Naturally, a good bachelorette party is not complete with some dirty desserts...

Delicious cakeballs - very easy to make and such a hit! Go to the Recipes tab for the instructions to make some!
Our decorations for the house were very simple and sexy...the stand-up napkins are my favorite!

And the party favors were a great touch!

Insulated mini-coolers filled with a cute sunscreen stick, custom koozie & bath salts! Shout out to Navy & Lavender and Swoozies for our cute and affordable gifts!

Overall, a great weekend of celebrating with friends!
